UNCLEAR DEER - Generative Design in C4D

Unnatural Nature…

For this personal generative design project, I experimented with motion graphics techniques to morph the natural form of a deer into low poly geometric shapes.  In so doing, I sought to create new forms parametrically through the conditions applied in Cinema 4D.

For me, the interest lies in the ambiguous place where the geometry hints at the natural shape it is derived from, but is not immediately apparent - here the shapes are almost diagrammatic representations of the deer.

 Production

On the left: a screenshot from Cinema 4D that shows how I character rigged the Deer and applied a range of effects including: poly-reduction, vibrate, motion, explosion, and bulge. Many of these effects were then animated creating modulations of those parameters through time. In so doing, the stills that were created were generatively derived. On the right: a test still - the rigged deer with a small amount of poly-reduction.
