Serpentine Pavilion - generative soundscape for United Visual Artists

United Visual Artists Electrical Storm intervention inside Sou Fujimoto's geometric cloud like structure at the Serpentine Gallery in London was an immersive sound and light intervention for which I created a generative soundscape.  I was to create a level of sonic depth that felt intense and visceral without being too dark and frightening.  The sonic pallet was generatively triggered by the light's activity, creating a cohesive end result.  This project was undertaken as an internship while I was completing a masters in Media & Arts Technology at Queen Mary University.  You can watch the video here.

The soundscape…

Here is a sample of the soundscape; as it is generate, it evolves uniquely in each performance, in accordance to how the lighting evolves.

Creating the Serpentine soundscape

I created a range of sounds by both sampling clicks and crunches and using synthesisers. I used Logic Audio’s EXS24 to trigger and organise samples. These were then databased to be triggered by UVA’s custom software.
